A lesson learned all too frequently after its too late is to always leave uncommitted time in your schedule. You need the freedom to react to things that arise but were unplanned. Your children have moments when being there with them is critical - and you never know when they are going to come up because kids have little or no sense of prioritizing.

[...] If you are going to be spending a lot of time on the computer away from your family, be up front about it. Include them in the decision making so they don’t feel like you’re “always” on the computer. Decide how much time you need on the computer during the day then approach your family. Tell your spouse and your kids you need 3 hours during the day to write and tend to emails. Then discuss as a family when those three hours will be. Avoid hard feelings, on their part, and feelings of guilt, on your part, by letting them have a say in your time management.
Hi Melissa,

Reducing commitments can be one of the hardest but most effective ways to relieve the pressure. I've resigned to the fact that I'll always be a horrible mom for something or other, but I know deep down I'm pretty okay :) I love your response "playing" that's brilliant and it's so important for kids to do.
