This is a fantastic blog. The house stays so much cleaner and serene when you get rid of junk. Here are some of my favorite tricks. When I notice that there are several half bottles of shampoos or conditioners in the shower, I pour them into each other. The same goes for half bottles of ibuprofen, partially filled bags of rice, flour, etc. Go through the kitchen cupboards and consolodate.
Also, think about using items in different ways so that your shelvess aren't full of specialized objects that you rarely use. For instance, jewelry makers usually buy special indented trays to arrange their beads in, when a towel over a regular tray works just fine. The the same tray filled with dried beans or pebbles makes a great base for pillar candles instead of specialized candle holders.
Objects moved around look brand new. I got rid of some art that had been in a frame, and leaned the empty frame on the mantel with something else standing in front of it. Suddenly, both objects looked new and decorative, when all I did was subtract and arrange.
My grandmother used to keep pretty bottles filled with colored water on her kitchen window. They were beautiful. I've done the same thing and then re-cycled the bottles when I tired of the effect. Now there was a cheap thrill!
