I'm with the "getting rid of things" idea. I just wrote a blog on that exact idea, it may or may not help someone here, but click on my name to visit.

My thing is to just 'have less' but this doesn't always work with my children in particular one of them who is a real hoarder of 'everything'.

One idea I wanted to share that is kid specific and I think I might have got this off the flylady site a long time ago is to have a big container for each child just inside the door or some place like that...kind of central but where when the come home they can dump things. You can also get them to throw things in there if they don't have time to put them away 'at the time'. The rule is it must be cleared out each day. I admit this doesn't always happen in my home, but it's meant to, although not the school bags, they do live there permanently, except on weekends.

Handling things once is so right and a good reminder for me, thank you.

Hey Wendy!

Right now I have a verrrrry needy toddler (she's 10 months, and I'm *still* waiting for her to grow out of her colic, lol!), so there really is no rhyme or reason. I fit it in when I have a chance, but it's definitely not regular or as much as I would otherwise.

Before she was born, I always found that the best time was after I made dinner and while it was in the oven, or if it was a dinner that didn't take long to make on the stove or something, I'd fit in 30 minutes before starting dinner. I work full-time from home, but I try not to tackle projects like that during my work day because it helps me keep better boundaries, so evening seems to work best!

Thanks -- have a great weekend as well!

When do you find the best time for you to de-clutter is? For example, is it 30 min in the evening, or every other weekend? Just curious what works for you. I need to re-do my system :-) I hope you and your family have a great weekend!

Completely agree with you, Mandi. Am an obsessive clutter-buster and even, then I find it sneaking up on me every now and then. LOL!. Like Aby's tip of using open top containers. Makes total sense. Thanks!
